TL;DR: Your data stays on your device and in your private iCloud. We don't collect, sell, or share anything. No ads. No tracking. No third parties. Period.
Introduction
Moment of Weakness ("we," "our," or "the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our iOS application.
Our Core Privacy Principle: Your personal struggles and goals are exactly that—personal. We built this app with privacy as the foundation, not an afterthought.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide
When you use Moment of Weakness, you create and store the following information locally on your device:
- Goal Information: Your SMART goal components, target dates, and personalized goal statements
- Reasons (Motivations): Text-based reasons and optional photos you choose to attach
- Moment Records: Timestamps of when you triggered the app and your self-reported outcomes (success/failure/pending)
- Location Data (Optional): If you grant permission, approximate location coordinates when moments are logged
Automatically Collected Information
The app automatically records:
- Timestamps: When moments of weakness occur
- Usage Patterns: Time-of-day and day-of-week analytics (calculated locally on your device)
- Success Metrics: Streak counts and success rates (calculated locally)
Information We DO NOT Collect
We explicitly do not collect, transmit, or have access to:
- Your name, email, or any personal identifiers
- Analytics about how you use the app
- Crash reports or diagnostic data
- Device information beyond what iOS requires for basic functionality
- Any information for advertising purposes
How We Use Your Information
All data processing happens locally on your device. Your information is used solely for:
- Core Functionality: Displaying your reasons when you trigger a moment of weakness
- Notifications: Sending 90-second intervention check-ins (processed locally)
- Analytics Display: Calculating and showing your patterns, streaks, and success rates in the Insights tab
- Location Context: Categorizing locations (e.g., "Home," "Work") to help you identify environmental patterns
- Widget & Watch Sync: Syncing data to your widgets and Apple Watch via secure App Group containers
Data Storage and Security
Local Storage
By default, all your data is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data is:
- Encrypted by iOS when your device is locked
- Protected by your device passcode/Face ID/Touch ID
- Never transmitted to our servers (because we don't have any)
iCloud Sync (Optional)
If you enable iCloud sync in Settings:
- Your data syncs via Apple's CloudKit, not our servers
- Data is encrypted in transit and at rest using Apple's encryption
- Only accessible via your iCloud account on your devices
- We cannot access your iCloud data—only you can
- You can disable iCloud sync at any time in Settings
App Group Storage
To enable widgets and Apple Watch functionality, limited data (current streak, goal headline, and reason count) is stored in a shared App Group container on your device. This data:
- Remains on your device only
- Is protected by iOS security mechanisms
- Is only accessible by Moment of Weakness and its extensions
Location Data
How We Use Location
Location tracking is entirely optional. If you grant location permission:
- We capture latitude/longitude coordinates when you log a moment
- Coordinates are not sent to any server
- We reverse-geocode to determine context (e.g., "Restaurant," "Gym") using Apple's native services
- We never store specific addresses—only generalized categories
- Location data helps you see patterns (e.g., "I struggle more at restaurants")
Location Privacy
- No Specific Addresses: We don't save "Joe's Bar, 123 Main St"—only "Bar/Restaurant"
- Auto-Learning: Home and Work locations are inferred from usage patterns (nighttime = home, weekday 9-5 = work)
- Geofencing Alerts (Optional): If enabled, location-based reminders are processed locally on your device
- You Control It: Revoke location permission anytime in iOS Settings
Photo Attachments
If you choose to add photos to your reasons:
- Photos are stored locally on your device (or in iCloud if sync is enabled)
- We don't analyze, scan, or process photo content
- Photos are only displayed back to you during moments of weakness
- You can delete photos anytime from the Reasons tab
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not share your data with anyone. Ever.
- No Analytics Services: We don't use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, Mixpanel, or any tracking SDKs
- No Advertising: No ads means no ad networks accessing your data
- No Data Brokers: We don't sell, rent, or trade your information
- No AI Training: Your data is never used to train machine learning models
Apple Services
The app uses standard Apple frameworks that may process data locally:
- CloudKit: For optional iCloud sync (data encrypted and only accessible to you)
- Core Location: For optional location context (processed on-device)
- UserNotifications: For 90-second intervention check-ins (scheduled locally, not via remote servers)
Your Data Rights

You have complete access to all your data within the app. View your goals, reasons, moments, and analytics anytime in the app.

- Significant changes will be communicated via an in-app notice
- Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of the updated policy
